What better way to mark the 50th anniversary of TOEFL® than to celebrate the incredible achievements of students like you! Today we spotlight the journey of Jung Joon Moon—from his interest in English as a young student in Korea, to his time studying abroad in Switzerland, to his current leadership position with a well-known hotel company.
A fascination with the English language
Jung remembers liking English from his school days in Korea. He often listened to the U.S. Army broadcasting channel, “AFN,” in his house to help him become accustomed to the language: “English was always close to me, and I tried to study it in a natural way.”
Preparing for the TOEFL® test
Jung says he focused on words and idioms along with grammar rules. “For me, learning new technical terms and advanced vocabulary words and phrases was the most important part of preparing for TOEFL.”
Studying abroad in Switzerland
“Once a TOEFL score was above a certain level, it was possible to enter a college without a separate training course.” This allowed Jung to apply directly to the CÉSAR RITZ Colleges Switzerland, where he was accepted and studied hotel management for three years.
A career in the hotel business
Today, Jung is the head of the revenue management team in Parnas Hotel Company. He is one of the youngest team leaders in the company. And English remains an important part of his life: “English is indispensable in the hotel business. When communicating with business partners overseas or with HQ colleagues, formal business English is essential.”
We congratulate Jung on his success, and are glad that the TOEFL® test was part of his journey!
