Xiaoming Xi is a senior research scientist in the Research and Development Division of ETS, Princeton, NJ. She received her PhD in second/foreign language assessment from the University of California, Los Angeles. Since joining ETS in 2003, she has worked on research projects for the TOEFL iBT™ test and other English language assessments. Her research focuses on assessing speaking as a second/foreign language. Her areas of interest include: factors affecting performance on speaking tests, analytical rating scales for speaking tests, issues in speech scoring, automated scoring of speech, and fairness issues in the broader context of test use.
She serves on the editorial boards of Language Testing and Language Assessment Quarterly and on the Executive Board of the International Language Testing Association (ILTA). She has published widely in leading journals and guest edited a special issue on automated scoring for Language Testing. She is a recipient of the 2005 ILTA Best Language Testing Paper Award, the 2005 and 2006 ETS Presidential Award and the 2010 ETS Scientist Award.
