Who's who in The Study Group

Raj is from Delhi, India, and is a model student. He’s a born leader, a confident test taker, and willing mentor to his friends — even his younger siblings at home in India. His everyday English skills are excellent, including his skills in reading, making him a popular study partner and a very in-demand tutor. He wants to make his father proud, and is driven to do his best.

Val is from the Ukraine, from a city named Luhansk. She is working hard to adjust to life in a new country, but struggles with her English. She’s very smart, with big ideas and technical skill, but her lack of confidence in speaking English makes her shy away from the spotlight. A high achiever, Val seeks advice from her peers to learn from their experiences and improve herself.

Min is from Wonju, Korea. He’s a more laid back student — less structured in how he studies for tests, often using everyday life experiences as part of his preparation. He is comfortable in his English-speaking school environment, and has focused on improving his listening skills to succeed. He’s easy-going, relaxed about projects and tests, and can balance schoolwork and studying without getting stressed out.

Celia is from a small town near Sao Paulo, Brazil. She is an overachiever — volunteering to lead class projects, running for student government, always doing the extra credit offered in class. She’s an extremely organized student, making long lists and using every kind of prep material she can to study. A strong writer in her native language, Celia is trying to apply her writing skills in English.
